My Astronomy professor and friend Elmer Kreisel taught me about astronomy as a science. He also taught me how to run the planetarium for visiting school groups and gave me a lifelong interest in astronomy. The Crab Nebula is a famous remnant of an exploding star that happened in 1054 AD. We studied the nebula in class and Elmer would always remind us to cover our ears at 10:54 AM because of the nova explosion. I always think of that when I see a digital clock displaying 10:54.
